The North Face Down Jackets
A luxurious shelter in which to protect yourself from bitter winds and crisp winter air.
The North Face uses only the highest quality Goose Down in all of its jackets. Each lot of down is thoroughly tested at three stages of production for loftiness, moisture resistance and ability to regain loft after compression. The fill-power of goose down is an indicator of two important features: the warmth-to-weight ratio and compressability, both critical to your warmth and comfort. The North Face jackets are all insulated with exclusive high-fill-power Goose Down ranging from 550 fill to 900 fill, the highest quality down commercially available.
"Goose Down conforms to your body beautifully trapping warm air against your core, keeping you snug like nothing else can"
Down is the insulation of choice in cold and dry conditions, it conforms to your body beautifully trapping warm air against your core, keeping you snug like nothing else can. The outer fabrics of The North Face Down Jackets and Vests are incredibly tightly woven to keep the down in place and the wind out. All of these premium down insulated products are designed for specific end uses, but each and every one will bring you unrivaled warmth and I dare say happiness!
Why should I spend extra on a Jacket insulated with Goose Down rather than Duck Down?
Lesser quality brands will use Duck Down to reduce costs but Duck Down has smaller filament clusters than Goose Down clusters. Because Goose Down has larger clusters, it can achieve higher fill-powers. High fill-powers equals higher loft hence superior insulation, lighter weight and greater durable resiliency. The other thing to bear in mind is that Duck Down has more natural oils than goose down so will retain a strong odor that cannot be fully removed.
I you anticipate wearing your The North Face Down Jacket in damp or wet conditions you will need do wear a waterproof shell jacket as an outer layer. Down clusters flatten out when they are wet so cannot insulate you effectively. If you don't want to wear a waterproof jacket, then we would recommend a synthetically insulated jacket, such as The North Face ThermoBall™. Revolutionary The North Face ThermoBall™ has been developed to closely resemble natural down clusters, but is able to maintain its loft and insulating ability even when wet.
