The North Face Denali II Men's Jacket Review
Hello The North Face Denali II Men's Fleece Jacket!
We are delighted to have The North Face Denali Fleece Jacket back again! Its previous incarnation was a very popular Fleece Jacket with our outdoor-loving customers. The revolution in Fleece fabrics has been exciting, but we welcome the come-back of an updated solid, traditional Fleece Jacket. Enter The North Face Denali II Men's Jacket.
Polartec Classic 300
Top of my list of favourite features on the Denali II; Polartec Classic 300 - yes 300 weight Fleece! I feel the cold, so am very grateful of the warmest garments I can lay my hands on. Polartec 300 is a heavier weight Fleece than Polartec 200, giving a thicker pile of lofted fibres, providing more thermal air pockets to retain more warmth.
Warm, Quick-Drying & Durable
Polartec Classic 300 is also very, very breathable allowing you to stay dry and comfortable inside the jacket. The North Face Denali II Men's Jacket will dry really quickly too - very useful after getting caught out in rain and also for a quick laundry turn-around. It's super durable too - not like a Fleece Jacket that you can pick up on the high street. As it's very resistant to pilling the Denali II Men's Fleece Jacket should remain looking great for many years to come.
Wind-resistant, Durable Overlays
I also really appreciate the nylon overlays on the Denali II Jacket. They are softer than the older versions so movement isn't restricted and it's not crinkly. Their main benefits being extra windproof-ness over the chest, helping to keep you warmer still. They're also going to significantly improve the durability on high wear points - protection from carrying bags/rucksacks and also on the under side of the forearm for day-to-day use - think of all the times your forearm brushes over the edge of your desk as you type! The hem is another vulnerable point that benefits from the extra durability. It's these overlays that provide the iconic look of The North Face Denali II Jacket which I happen to find visually pleasing too, but that's personal opinion!
Under-arm Air Conditioning
Another really note-worthy feature is the Denali II's zippered underarm vents. This is a warm Fleece Jacket, so the ability to let out some heat is very valuable, especially when temperatures are changeable or you're varying your activity levels. Both the underarm zips and the main front zip have Fleece flaps behind to aid anti-snag use and keep out droughts.
The pockets are a good size for storing all your bits and bobs - the two chest pockets extending to the edges of the nylon overlays. The left hand chest pocket has a exit slot for your smartphone's earbuds and a loop to tuck them through on the collar so that you can listen discreetly and securely. The hand pockets again are well-sized for wearing gloves plus there are cord zip pulls so you can still undo them wearing gloves. The pockets are brushed tricot backed on the inside creating a snug spot to warm your chilly hands.
I prefer my Fleece Jackets to have a drawcord at the hem so that I can cinch it in. Either to keep warmer, or to alter the fit, especially when I wear a Waterproof over the top - it means that you can pull the lower section of the Fleece a little higher so that it doesn't stick out underneath the outer Jacket. The North Face Denali II Men's Jacket has an elasticated drawcord with an easy to use, little adjuster inside at the side.
Upgrade your TriClimate with a Warmer Inner Fleece
If you want your The North Face TriClimate (zip-in) Jacket system to be warmer, then you can upgrade your existing inner Fleece Jacket to the Denali II as it has a zip-in compatible front zip. The Denali II has the popper loop at the cuff that attaches to the inside of the Waterproof Jacket, holding the sleeves together when you put on/take off the zipped together Jacket. Or you can create your own 3-in-1 Jacket by zipping this Fleece into any zip-in compatible The North Face Jacket
Modern, Warm Fleece with Classic Good Looks
The North Face Denali II Men's Jacket is a 'does what it says on the tin' Fleece Jacket. It uses exceptionally good Polartec Classic 300 Fleece that you can rely upon for comfort and warmth for years to come. I like the traditional feel and look too, although I was expecting it to be quite heavy. I'm pleasantly surprised by its non-bulky light weight and can see just why it's been so popular in the USA for so many decades!
